This article presents the initial results of the process of constructing the state of the art of Higher Environmental Education (HEE) in Argentina. This work was carried out within the framework of the Collective of Researchers in HEE in Argentina (EArte-Ar), which is part of a broader regional group, EArte-AlyC, grounded in a Latin American critical perspective. To develop this state of the art, master's and doctoral theses that connect educational processes and notions of environment in a broad sense were analyzed. This involved a process with multiple consecutive and simultaneous stages. The present study focuses on the stage related to the selection and inclusion of theses in a database and their analysis using various "descriptors." The article presents the results derived from processing 76 academic works. The analysis methodology followed a mixed approach, considering both qualitative and quantitative aspects depending on the descriptors involved. The criteria analyzed included thesis publication data, the institutional contexts in which these works were developed, and those related to the object of study, such as spatial contexts and the educational contexts addressed. The results reveal a growth in the number of academic productions in the field for the period 2011–2023 compared to previous years, as well as a multidisciplinary engagement increasingly situated within higher education studies applied to environmental sciences. The article also presents some findings related to how educational contexts are being studied through an environmental lens.
